Community Charter

This ecosystem does not use a Code of Conduct.

A Code of Conduct is punitive and pass/fail. It builds compliance and resentment. It applies the logic of rules enforcement to what is supposed to be a community. It does not build the capacity to repair harm. It builds the capacity to avoid consequences.

This community uses a Charter instead.

What a Charter does differently

A Charter is restorative. When harm happens, and harm will happen, because white folx are actively unlearning conditioning that runs deep, the response is not expulsion. It is process.

Reflect. Engage in dialogue. Repair and reconnect.

The guiding principle is: seek connection before correction.

Harm that continues after a restorative process has been attempted results in appropriate protective measures. But that is the last resort, not the default response. The default response is accountability, not punishment.

The Community Charter

The goal of this community is to foster an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative space rooted in The Future Is FREE ethos: Supremacy-FREE (Equal Value), Coercion-FREE (Equal Agency), Discrimination-FREE (Equal Access), Exploitation-FREE (Equal Leverage).

Core values:

Self-Reflection: Assess how your actions impact the community.

Self-Accountability: Own your actions and seek alignment with community values.

Constructive Conflict Resolution: Prioritize dialogue, active listening, and restorative practices over punitive response.

Intentional Collaboration: Approach interactions with compassion, respect, and a growth mindset.

Expected actions:

Engage authentically. Communicate with respect. Seek connection before correction.

When misalignment happens:

Reflect on the impact of your actions. Engage in open dialogue with a focus on resolution and learning. Repair and reconnect by making amends and restoring trust.

If harm continues after these steps, moderators may implement protective measures up to and including permanent removal.

The full scope

This Charter applies to all community members including those in leadership roles and guests, across all formats, online and in-person, as well as in one-on-one communications related to community matters.

The aim is a culture of shared accountability, mutual respect, and collective growth. Members reflect on their own actions, words, and intentions; take responsibility and seek alignment with shared values; prioritize dialogue and restorative practices over punitive response; and approach each interaction as an opportunity to co-create a culture of mutual respect and shared learning centered on equity and collective liberation.

The Charter is not a wall posting or a document handed over at the door. It is embodied by every co-conspirator present in the space.

On co-conspirators

This community does not have members. It has co-conspirators.

Co-conspirators are not here to help. They understand: if anyone in this community is harmed, then they too are harmed. They move through the world knowing that their privileges were built on systems, institutions, and policies that harm others. They commit to using that privilege to interrupt harm, not perform outrage. They do not need to be centered. They show up because it is right, not because it is easy.

The world does not need more allies. It needs people who will fight with us, not for us.
